Pisces New Moon Ceremonial Bath
How to take a Ceremonial Bath
I love to take baths. As someone who works so closely with people, it’s important for me to cleanse my energy regularly, and 90% of the time, I use water to cleanse my body and energy field. Most of the time it’s a shower, but when I have the time, I give myself the extra benefits of a bath. With a bath, you are not just cleansing, but also nourishing; you get to add elements for the physical body and spirit.
Here is what I feel is necessary for a ceremonial bath:
Intention: By making your bath ceremonial, you are first and foremost doing it with intention. Light a candle. Set aside some time, at least 20 minutes, where you are alone and won’t be distracted. As you plan your bath, contemplate what you need to release, and how you want to feel after.
Magnesium Flakes: These are a must for anyone living in this modern world. Majority of people are deficient in Magnesium as this mineral depletes while under chronic stress. Although it is found in many foods, it’s simply impossible to get enough through diet alone. Magnesium supports the body in breaking down proteins (it’s responsible for over 3,000 enzyme reactions in the body), it helps to regulate blood sugar balance (hello diabetes), and supports every nerve and muscle (your heart and gut are both muscles) in the body. Magnesium deficiency has been linked to mental health issues, digestive disorders, celiac, diabetes, and even high blood pressure. My favorite magnesium flakes are from a brand called Ancient Minerals. Magnesium is best absorbed through your largest organ system, the skin, and the body needs at least 20 mins to fully absorb it.
Salt: Salt will help draw out any negative energy in the body as well as provide more trace minerals. Sea salt works great, but some people may even prefer Dead Sea Salt which has even more trace minerals. The salt will also work to ease any aches, sore muscles, and lactic acid in the body.
Essential Oils: Essential oils just really complete a bath. I love using everything from rose oil, lavender oil, or one of my favorites, Ravensara. Add a couple of drops in for an enhanced experience. Smells will open you up and connect you to the emotional body. Allowing that to activate while you are bathing will help you shed, and feel more, instead of being heavy in mental energy. This really helps shift from a day of zoom meetings and lot of eye exhaustion, to grounding fully into the body and the present moment.
Flowers: I LOVE working with flowers. You can select some flowers you’ve been attracted to, and add the full flower, or petals into your bath. All flowers hold a certain vibration so perhaps looking up the essence of the flower will support you in planning your ceremonial bath. You can also soak the petals in milk for 2 hours, then add the milk into your bath to really infuse the flower’s essence. Plus the milk with soothe and soften your skin. When my daughter was a newborn I would almost always add in breast milk for her skin, and chamomile flowers, to get her to really relax.
You can also add in herbs, eucalyptus, lemon slices, etc - this is your time so create what you need. I find this experience to be deeply feminine in nature, so just this simple act can help you drop into your yin energy as you switch from a masculine dominant day, or if you are working on calling in more feminine energy for fertility, rest, and receiving. If you don’t own a bath tub, you can implement this same ceremony through a foot soak.
Here’s my March recipe for an Anemone Milk Bath:
I used Anemone flowers because I’ve been so drawn to them lately. These flowers close at night and reopen in the morning, giving them the essence of anticipation, an excitement for the future, while also a deep reverence for the act of rest. Their essence also supports anyone grieving, which I find, we can all use a little of that right now. Seasonally, March is a time of anticipation, as winter is still here, and Spring is just around the corner, we must still find moments of rest even as the days seem to be getting longer. I hope this essence can serve to remind the body and spirit on the importance of pausing. If you don’t have Anemone, that’s ok, use the flower you are drawn to, let your soul guide you. Stay curious to what YOUR medicine may be.
Place Flowers in 1 cup of full fat milk or coconut milk for at least 2 hours before your bath.
Add in a Tbsp of Sea Salt.
Before Bath, use a strainer, and place milk in a jar to pour into your bath.
2 cups of Mg Flakes
8 Drops of Ravensara, Ravensara opens up the senses and cleanses energy, but you can use any oil of your choice.
*Light a candle, put some cucumber on your eyes and enjoy your ceremonial bath. Perfect for this watery New Moon.
Some other tips:
Stay hydrated: Add a bit of salt and fruit/lemon to your water while you are in your bath. After, have something potassium rich like a banana, or coconut or aloe juice.
If you have a hard time staying in a hot bath, don’t make it too hot. You should feel relaxed, and not have the urge to exit before 20 mins.
If you are detoxing excess estrogen or you are estrogen dominant, stay away from lavender oils. They act to increase estrogen in the body.
Try not to use bubbles, most are made from synthetic chemicals that can affect the hormones.
